Join 4×4 Adventure Tours for 10 of the best off-roading Portugal has to offer from 5th – 14th May 2025.
Our tours explore the country’s mountains, deserts, rivers and forests and are designed to fit into a two-week holiday.
Short of going to Morocco, off-roading in Portugal has some of the best land access and freedom of movement available in western Europe.
The sparsely populated county is very rugged and mountainous. A world away from the popular coastal tourist traps. The Portuguese themselves love motorsport and are some of the most ardent rally fans. They are very welcoming to 4x4s.
All this makes Portugal a fantastic 4×4 destination for the intrepid overland traveler.
This is an off-road adventure, NOT a cultural tour.
Spirit and intention of the trip
4×4 Adventure Tours runs this Portugal trip as an overland adventure expedition. This means we expect the group to work together as a team and you will need to be an active participant in the adventure.
Teamwork will allow us to take on more challenging and adventurous routes that would otherwise not be possible as individuals. You may be asked to carry additional pieces of recovery equipment.
Off-road adventure
This trip is intended as an off-road 4×4 adventure, not a cultural tour. It will not specifically include any site seeing trips, although time aside may allow for this. (You will, however, see and experience many interesting places). We will be looking to seek out challenging terrain that will test your driving skills and use the full capabilities of your 4×4 vehicles.
Driving ability
Some previous experience of “off-road” driving is required for this trip and its recommended for experienced drivers only. There are long distances to cover and you can expect to be driving most of the day, every day. It is preferable (and far more enjoyable) if you have a co-driver that you can share some of the driving with.
Vehicle Suitability
This trip is suitable for well prepared tough trucks. We don’t mean mad winch challenge mods as there still a fair way to drive on the tarmac, but this is a proper off road trip, Winches, Snorkels, Steering Guards, Rock Sliders. Mud Tyres, Waffle boards, High lift Jacks, etc will all come in handy. A preparation guide will be provided.
